Scugog Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy

Over the past several years, the Township of Scugog has experienced significant development and economic growth. This has increased the parking demand within the Township, particularly in the downtown core of Port Perry and waterfront areas. To address these parking challenges and opportunities, the Township has initiated a Parking Enforcement and Permitting Strategy. This study will set out a comprehensive implementation plan and define how a parking permit program can be used to manage parking demand. The strategy is intended to optimize parking resources, support economic development, and enhance livability. The Township has retained R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited to lead the study.

Frequently Asked Questions

A parking study undertakes a comprehensive analysis of the supply, demand, and operational efficiency of parking facilities within a study area. The study will help inform parking strategies and policy direction to manage the existing and anticipated parking demand. However, it cannot resolve every isolated parking issue. Instead, the outcomes of the parking study will help develop a policy framework and provide parking management tools for Township staff.

The Township provides a mixture of short-term (on-street) and long-term (off-street) parking in the downtown area of Port Perry. Currently, municipal parking is free, with exception of parking at the Boat Launch Lot for vehicles with a trailer. There is a time limit of 3 hours for on-street parking and overnight parking is prohibited during the winter months.
