The Township has received four applications from Shared Tower Inc. for the proposed construction of Telecommunication Towers on the subject properties that are municipally known as 225 Platten Boulevard, 3340 Highway 7A, 23400 Simcoe Street, and 19500 Highway 7 & 12.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) is the approval authority responsible for regulating telecommunication facilities, in accordance with the Federal Telecommunication Act. Applicants are required to consult with the local Municipality as the land use authority. This application was previously presented at a Public Open House on November 2, 2023, and a Public Meeting was held at the Planning and Community Affairs Committee on December 11, 2023.

The remaining step in the process is for Township Council to provide a letter to ISED confirming the completion of the local municipal public consultation process for telecommunication towers. The letter can include an overview of Council’s comments on the proposed telecommunication tower for ISED’s consideration.

TT-01 2023 225 Platten Boulevard (STC0429)

On April 3, 2023, the Township received a proposal from Shared Tower Inc. (the Applicant), to install a new 14.9 metre “Slim Monopole Streetworks” telecommunication tower on a portion of the lands owned by Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities Inc., located at 225 Platten Boulevard in Ward 3 of the Township of Scugog. The subject property is used in conjunction with the adjacent Scugog Landing cottage and RV resort and contains an existing storage building.

A Public Open House session was hosted at the Township of Scugog on October 25th, 2023. This meeting provided information on the telecommunication tower location and responded to questions and comments received from members of the public. With the consideration of comments received from the public and partner agencies, a Recommendation Report has been prepared by Staff and will be presented to council during the Planning and Community Affairs Committee meeting on March 18, 2024.


TT-02 2023 3340 Hwy 7A (STC0276)

On July 25, 2023, the Township received a proposal from Shared Tower Inc. (the Applicant), to install a new 60-metre self-support telecommunication tower on a portion of the lands located at 3340 Hwy 7A (the Subject Lands) in Ward 4 of the Township of Scugog. The Subject Lands are currently used for agricultural purposes and contain a dwelling and several accessory buildings and structures.

On October 26, 2023, a Public Open House Meeting, and a Public Meeting on December 11, 2023, was hosted at the Township of Scugog. These meetings provided information on the telecommunication tower location and responded to questions and comments received from members of the public. A Recommendation Report has been prepared by Staff ahead of the Planning and Community Affairs Committee Meeting on March 18th, 2024. (the Applicant), to install a new 60-metre self-support telecommunication tower on a portion of the lands located at 23400 Simcoe St (the Subject Lands) in Ward 1 of the Township of Scugog. The Subject Lands are currently used for agricultural purposes and contain a dwelling and several accessory buildings and structures.
