Old Rail Lane Trail Connection
Consultation has concluded

Project Status Update
The Township of Scugog has contracted Markham Property Services to install a permeable pavement trail along the east boulevard of Old Rail Lane.
The work is scheduled to begin the week of August 14, 2023 and is expected to be completed by late summer 2023.
Most of the construction will be taking place in the boulevard. This trail will provide a connection for pedestrians between the waterfront trail and the sidewalk at the intersection of North Street. Minimal impact to traffic is expected during construction.

In 2021, the Township of Scugog developed a long-term strategy to strengthen and support the transportation network within the municipality, with a focus on fostering the use of more active travel modes such as walking and cycling. The Active Transportation and Transportation Master Plan (AT and TMP) recommended facility improvements including development of linking Waterfront Trail along Old Rail Lane between the Water Street roundabout and the Boat Launch.
The design of the trail connection was completed in 2021 and presented to the Scugog Environmental Advisory Committee in late 2021 to seek guidance on the existing trees that are in conflict with the trail. As the Norway Maples are considered an invasive species in Ontario (these trees are more efficient at producing seeds and surviving certain conditions, which could lead to them overtaking and possibly eliminating native species in the area), the remaining trees along the boulevard will be removed and replaced with native plantings in fall of 2023.
With support of Kawartha Conservation and the RBC Tech for Nature fund, the Township of Scugog will be constructing a permeable pavement trail connection along the east boulevard of Old Rail Lane - this trail will be accessible, meeting the AODA requirements. A drawing of the trail can be found in the Documents section on the right side of the page.
Construction is anticipated to take place in the summer of 2023, with completion by the end of summer.
